The Failure Formula
Emotional involvement with alcohol, music and drugs has for the male user the same ego-support values as a female provides but such vices are "safer”, because the user does not have to deal with a manipulating female personality.
Through sex people use (abuse) one becomes entangled with personality. However in escaping into the consolations of alcohol, music and drugs, one encounters a far more subtle evil. Somewhere beyond the experience of the consolation lurks a personality, a presence which at first cannot be seen, touched, tasted or smelled but is present nevertheless, a kind of willow-the-wisp that enters through the portals of vice.
Lonely little children are known to invent invisible friends to keep them company. The drunk, in his infantile state, often thinks of his bottle as his friend, a friend with a personality that "understands" him and communicates with his soul.
But supportive understanding for the ego can never be entirely a chemical thing or a musical thing nor even a sex thing. It is a shadowy intelligence, an embryonic spirit inside that through the wiles of speech, body movement and vice is expressed and developed. Any forbidden experience (such as the use of a comforting drug) opens the door to an evil realm. Because the soul is spirit, it must find reinforcement through a spirit or must perish and so, in its fallen state, the rebellious soul finds solace through escape into the forbidden.
Through emotional involvement the ego claims its selfish satisfaction while, at the same time, some intelligent force is using this use (of sex, drugs or whatever) as a medium to get inside. Perhaps you have not realized that your real need is a spiritual one, that the manifestation of wrong is a spiritual matter and is the result of a wrong attitude, a lack of true commitment. In themselves, drugs cannot really comfort a soul. A drug is merely a forbidden experience that rips open the fabric of matter to reveal and release the self-serving genie of the bottomless pit.
Your vice represents an escape, of course but an escape from what, for what? What "values" are you seeking through escape? Answer this honestly and you will see clearly that you are doing business with hell, giving yourself over to it for a fleeting moment of glory!
