We become like those whom we hate - we also
become like those whom we love. Observe people
who live together.
They begin to take on each others physical characteristics in many respects.
Even adopted children take on the appearance and ways of
their adoptive parents. Wives and husbands grow to resemble each other.
Perhaps your mother screamed at you when you were younger, and now you find, to your horror, that you are treating your children in exactly the same manner - compulsively.
Perhaps your father drank; yet you find that your way of life is presently evolving around the same ugly habit. On the other hand, perhaps you make a vow that you would NOT drink; rebelling against the very idea of alcohol, or the like.In your anger, perhaps you vowed that you would never be like that hated image; yet, strangely, you see that image projected into your spouse, or emerging into your children.
The home life that you hated is duplicated in your present life, no matter how hard you schemed to avoid it, either with cunning kindness, or by ruling the roost with an iron rod.Going even further, we actually find ourselves picking up the guilt's and diseases of our parents-who unconsciously transfer them to us, out of their matrix of fear.
In other words, your father may hate his father's drinking, and in that hatred and fear, he becomes over-sensitive and dominating towards you. In your rebellion, you become the "image" of your father, or of his parent.
