CRIME, POVERTY, SUFFERING Part 1

Everything in life is a matter of choices. Your end will be the result of a long chain of choices, wise or foolish, that you have made. Choices make or break, build or destroy character. One way or another, we all end up with what we richly deserve.

Humankind is given over to suffering to the end that we may learn the folly of pride.

Suffering the consequences of our choices, we may come to realize that something is wrong, may see where we are headed in time to turn back. Suffering is a state into which we descend through pride and rich or poor, suffer we must until the pain of existence prods us to ask why. Tribulations that might have been prevented by wise and honorable choices may teach us to become honorable and wise.

Suffering is a state into which we descend through pride and rich or poor, suffer we must until the pain of existence prods us to ask why.
Through a false spirit of charity, many seek to defeat the Divine purpose of suffering in the scheme of things. They do so to their peril. Alleviate another persons pain, help him for a wrong reason in a wrong way and you may actually be stealing from him his only chance to awaken to repentance and to grow.

There is, of course, a right way to help others. How wonderful it is to see the bright nature of people respond to opportunity and blossom like beautiful flowers but knowing the right way to help the right kind of person comes from a special grace; a knowledge of the right measure of everything that blessed people have. If you are one of those gifted ones who have felt the pressure (in your solar plexus) to give but held back, intuitively sensing something wrong, you don't know how blessed you are, how much horror you have escaped but when you have finished reading this article, you may leap for joy.

If you truly want to help others, there must be no ego or pride in your feelings toward them.

You must be watchful that it is not pity that moves you to extend a
helping hand, that you do not feel sorry for the sufferer. Feeling sorry is always an ego trip, which afterwards will make you feel guilty, not only because you have given for the wrong reason but because you will see your "help" has not helped.

Your own pain then (of guilt) compels you to continue helping, as you try to recapture the sense of elevation and worth that first flattered your pride. You are hooked and may go on giving until you have given everything.

Conceivably, the taker of your giving may run away with your business and your wife. If something like this has already occurred, you must realize that you have been the wrong kind of friend giving the wrong kind of help to the wrong kind of person. You have been used to nurture hell. Be wary therefore of feelings of "humanistic" compassion. When these pathetic looking creatures are raised up, they grow into monsters that will crush you mercilessly. That is Hell's thanks for charity and your reward is bitterness.
