The Letter Killeth Part 5
The Crisis of Faith through Emotion
There
comes a time when it becomes necessary to "lay down your life" in the
sense that you must give up those emotional attachments upon which your selfish
ego life has been nurtured. Just about then something within you stirs; it is
threatened, and tries to make you doubt the new way you are going. It seems as
though you were contemplating doing something wrong, giving up an inalienable
right to life—like a crocodile's "right" to its prey.
Giving
up your pleasure and your use of people is, to the selfish you, like giving up
the right to life. Something wants to make it seem like there is something
wrong with doing that.
You
must be careful about two things: words which can poison your faith, and
emotions which hand you over to a spirit of doubt".
