Although the Nazi holocaust is universally
considered to have been a descent into insanity, a nagging question still
haunts Germany. How did such a civilized, lawful nation turn savage? Many
Americans are asking the same hard question about this nation and its abortion
epidemic.
Only 40 years ago, Americans commonly used
the expression, "safe as a mother's womb”. Back then it would have
stretched the imagination of the most talented science-fiction writer to
envision angry women rampaging down the street, carrying on like crazy people,
screaming and waging a political war and for what, the "right" to
kill their own unborn children? Who could have thought that a time would come
in America when killing babies in their mothers' wombs would be not only lawful
but considered fashionable?
Even so, one might ask, what kind of woman
would kill her own baby just because it was legal? Most likely a woman who had
been convinced it wasn't a child, in fact, not a life at all. But how could she
reach that belief and is it possible that she could also be convinced to kill
her born children if such a thing were legal? Yes, perhaps so. The idea of
parents killing born children is not so farfetched. In China, where parents
are severely penalized for having more than one child, some Chinese kill their
first born if it is not a male.
In America, television and newspapers full
of horror stories of parents killing their own children, torturing them, suffocating
them to death, even throwing gasoline on them and setting them on fire. Somehow
these parents were convinced, probably in a moment of extreme anger, that the
blameless child was a thing deserving of destruction. More than 20,000 people
are murdered every year in the United States, often by members of their own
family. Innocent children are terribly abused in an environment of chaos
where the lawless rule but surely that is why we have laws: to protect the
law-abiding from the lawless.
